You can expect the average lifespan of each series of Rheem water heaters to exceed the manufacturer’s warranty by more than 3 years. Here’s how long each series typically lasts:

  1. Rheem Xwell Series (XC & XS): Typically lasts around 11 years.
  2. Rheem EHG Series: Typically lasts around 8 years.
  3. Rheem RCY Series and Rheem RCY-30: Typically lasts around 8 years.
  4. Rheem EH-M Series: Typically lasts around 6 years.
  5. Rheem Vertical Tank VP Series: Typically lasts around 6 years.

If you own a Rheem electric water heater and you do not have hot water, check the breaker to check if it has tripped unexpectedly. If it has, reset the circuit, and your water heater should continue to operate normally. If there were no power disturbances, the heating element may be at fault.

There are several reasons why your Rheem water heater may be tripping the circuit breaker:

  • Faulty Thermostat or Heating Element: A malfunctioning thermostat or heating element can cause the water heater to overheat, which can trip the circuit breaker as a safety measure.
  • Incorrect Wire Size: Using wires that are not the correct size for the water heater can lead to overheating of the wires, which can also trip the breaker.
  • Illegal Power Source Usage: Sharing the water heater’s power source with another load can overload the circuit, causing the breaker to trip.
  • Faulty Junction Box, Isolator: A malfunctioning junction box can lead to electrical faults that trip the breaker. If the isolator switch is faulty, it can cause power surges or interruptions, leading to tripping.
  • Malfunctioning Rheem Water Heater Switch: A faulty heater switch can result in intermittent electrical connections, which can trip the breaker.
  • High Water Pressure: High Water Pressure: Excessively high water pressure can cause pipes and the water heater to make noise, including a phenomenon known as water hammer.
  • Loose Pipe Connections: If the pipes connected to the water heater are not properly secured, they can rattle or vibrate, especially when water flows through them.
