Paloma Gas Heater

Gas Heater

Paloma gas heaters were initially distributed in Singapore by Hong Leong following their acquisition of Rheem Far East in 1985. In 1988, Paloma acquired Rheem, and Rheem Manufacturing Company (Singapore) Pte Ltd continued to distribute Paloma heaters independently of Hong Leong until around 2010. Since then, the technical and logistics teams for Paloma in Singapore have been disbanded, and there is no longer an official distributor for Paloma products in the region.

However, with extensive experience in servicing Paloma gas heaters, Homeone is the most capable vendor in Singapore for the repair and replacement of these units.

Compatibility

Paloma Logo

Your Paloma gas heater offers unmatched compatibility, allowing for easy replacement with any gas or electric heater brand. Enjoy the freedom to choose the best water heating solution for your home.

For Rinnai, you can choose from the top-of-the-line Rinnai REU-2008W-RS or the more affordable REU-2024WP-RS.

The Macro MA-20WOD offers exceptional value, featuring built-in Wi-Fi for mobile app control.

For European brands such as Ferroli, the GS 20 OE TG(I) is highly competitive in pricing, with a new Wi-Fi model launched in 2024.

For conversion to an electric storage heater, selecting the right capacity from brands such as Rheem, Ariston, or Joven will provide an experience similar to that of a hotel.

Error Codes

The most common issues include C2 – 11: No ignition, typically caused by insufficient gas supply or a faulty PCB; Code A1 – 61: Fan blower motor failure or a faulty PCB; and Code E1 – 51: Gas inlet solenoid valve fault or a faulty PCB.

Currently the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) for MC-95 and MC-117 are both discontinued and will not be available in the future. Additionally, carbon monoxide emissions from incomplete combustion pose irreparable risks. If you suspect a gas leak, please contact us for a test.

Compliance and Safety

EMA Licensed Gas Service Worker

All gas work in Singapore must be tested and signed off by an EMA Licensed Gas Service Worker before handing to a consumer with a certificate. The metal pipes to the heater requires equipotential bonding as required by EMA and plumber works to the heater to carried out or supervised by a PUB Licensed Plumber. All gas heater works by Homeone will comply with authorities such as EMA Gas, PUB and EMA Electric.

Deployment

Same-day urgent call-outs are available. Site assessments with tests cost $50. Gas heater replacements, including U-gauge testing with EMA LGSW certification (according to Gas Supply Regulations 21), ensure for safe use in 4 hours. Despite fast response in attendance, the gas heater replacement work will also include:

1

For plumbing works, replacing sections of hot, cold, and recirculating pipes (where applicable) with stainless steel fittings and new stop valve for enhanced durability, especially for outdoor installations. Recycling old fittings has proven ineffective, as repeated untightening and tightening can cause material fatigue, leading to ruptures in the long run.

2

For gas work, replacing key gas pipe fittings, such as the gas valve and removal of union, which are the two most common components prone to gas leaks after heater replacement due to ageing. A section of the gas pipe either made of galvanised iron (GI) or copper will be replaced due to possibility of it being weakened after repeatedly tightening and dismantling. The copper pipe specifications will have to be Type Y or table Y complying with BS EN 1057.

3

This work must be carried out or supervised by a fully Licensed Gas Service Worker (LGSW) from the EMA, not by someone with only a Restricted Licence. Testing of hot water at the fittings to ensure all are functioning as designed.

DO NOT allow modification to the heater. It is dangerous!

The most dangerous modifications are bypassing the safety controls

  • To bypass the thermocouple and
  • Removal of the solenoid valve and replace with an empty pipe so that the heater doesn’t shut down when it detects a gas leak.

The most serious being bypassing the solenoid valve. This is removing the safety valve that will shut off the whole system when it detects a gas leak.

Refer to the table below to ascertain the issue.

Gas Heater Error Codes Guideline

CodeFaultPoint to Check
03EZ LinkCheck communications cable. Ensure dip switch 4 on DIP1 set of switches is in the ON position on both heaters.
05Imperfect Combustion AlarmClean air inlet filter. Clean combustion air fan. Clean heat exchanger fins. Check for adequate combustion air ventilation openings and clean if necessary. Check vent system for partial blockage and correct as necessary.
10

Air Supply or Exhaust Blockage

Warning code not a fault code.

Check all vent components for proper connections. Ensure there are no restrictions in the flue inlet or exhaust. Ensure condensation trap/drain was installed correctly. Ensure heat exchanger fins, fan, and air intake are not blocked.
11No IgnitionEnsure gas supply to the appliance is turned ON. Ensure gas type and pressure is correct. Bleed all air from gas lines. Ensure gas line, meter, and regulator are sized properly. Ensure appliance is properly grounded. Check gas solenoid valves for open or short circuits. Ensure igniter is operational. Check igniter wiring for damage. Check heat exchange thermistor and transformer.
12Flame Failure

Ensure gas type and pressure is correct. Bleed all air from gas lines. Ensure flame rod wiring is correct. Check flame rod for carbon build-up. Ensure gas line, meter, and regulator are sized properly.

Ensure appliance is properly grounded. Check gas solenoid valves for open or short circuits. Check power supply for proper voltage and voltage drops. Disconnect remote control. Check heat exchange thermistor and transformer.

14Overheat Limiter Fault

Ensure high fire and low fire gas burner pressure is correct. Check gas type of unit and ensure it matches gas type being used. Check heat exchanger for cracks and/or separations. Check gas type connector. Check for restrictions in airflow around unit and vent terminal. Check over heat limiter wiring and ensure it is plugged in correctly.

15Boiling Safety Device

Check for closed water heater inlet valve or restrictions in cold water inlet pipe (must be fully open). Check for clogged heat exchanger (scale build up). On a commercial water heater, lower the set point temperature below 82°C at high altitude. Check heat exchange and hot water outlet thermistor.

16Over Temperature Warning

Check for blocked heat exchanger. Check for restrictions in airflow around unit and vent terminal. Check PGFR, heat exchanger thermistor and hot water outlet thermistor.

24Malfunction of Operational Switch

Disconnect remote control and retry. Verify unit is electrically grounded. Ensure Min, Max and/or Adjuster buttons have not been inadvertently depressed.

29Heat Exchanger Outlet Temp. Too LowCheck air intake filters and heat exchanger fins.
31Water Inlet Temperature Sensor FaultCheck sensor wiring is intact and not damaged. Check and clean scale from sensor if necessary. Ensure resistance is correct.
32Heat Exchanger Temperature Sensor Fault
33Outgoing Water Temperature Sensor Fault
34Ambient Air Temperature Sensor Fault
35Improper Thermistor ConnectionCheck that all thermistors are connected to proper connections on PCB. Ensure the hot and cold plumbing to the heater is not reversed.
